ACRYLIC
SUNFLOWER
CENTER: Shade around the center with Soft Black. Stipple the center with Mustard Seed and lighten with Light Yellow. Make the linework, created with the liner, with Mustard Seed. Randomly highlight some of the lines with Olive Green.
INNER RING: Shade with Black Plum; highlight with Royal Fuchsia; deepen the shade with Soft Black. The liner brush can achieve a broken line of Mustard Seed for a highlight. OUTER RING: Use the smallest angle to shade along the inner edge and outer edge with Raw Sienna then highlight the center with Mustard Seed. Strengthen the shaded area with a brush mix of Raw Sienna+Raw Umber and strengthen the highlight by dry brushing with Light Yellow.
STEM: Flatten out the bristles and basecoat the stem with a wash of Raw Umber. If needed, shade right side with Soft Black. The vines are done with Olive Green.
LEAVES: Shade with a mix of Avocado+Raw Umber, and highlight with Olive Green. Hav- ing the liner brush to a very fine point, add the vein using Olive Green.
BLANKET
Referring to the Step-by-Step on page 49, shade with Raw Umber and highlight with Light Buttermilk. All stitching around the outside edge can be created with the liner brush
loaded with thinned Raw Umber.
PILLOW BAG
The shading placement is shown in the Step-by-Step on page 49. Use either angle brush to shade with Raw Sienna. In the darker shaded areas, enhance with Raw Umber. Highlight with Antique White+Light Buttermilk. The liner brush is used to print the Lamp Black letters “boo!” and shaded with Raw Umber. Add a highlight with Antique White and Light Butter- milk. Paint the stitching with Raw Umber.
CANDY CORN
Apply a basecoat to each piece of candy corn in Snow (Titanium) White. Paint the end of each piece in Mustard Seed and the center in Burnt Orange. Refer to the Step-by-Step on page 49 for the exact placement of colors.
BORDER
A liner brush will give thin Black Plum vines. A stylist is used for the dots. Clusters of three dots are in Burnt Orange, Olive Green and Mustard Seed. Randomly add Raw Umber dots around the vines.
FINISHING
Referring to the Step-by-Step on page 49, shade with the 1⁄2" angle brush and Raw Umber under the Pumpkin Girl and the blanket. If a darker shading is desired, use Lamp Black to float over existing shading. Likewise, if highlights need to be lighter, try a dry bush with additional colors into those areas. Referring to the photo of the project will assist you in deciding about more shading and highlighting.
Using the 1⁄2" angle brush, apply a Plum wash along the inside of the rim of the pan and deepen with Black Plum. Repeat the process up onto the rim.
Spray with several light coats of DecoArt Americana Acrylic Sealer/Finisher Matte being sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
