Add Low Dark with no. 8 flat into the shadow areas around glass foot and cast shadow.
ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GLASS: Paint the right side using a no. 8 flat with Highlight Mix. Highlight with no. 6 and/or 8 flat into bright areas of the glass foot. Sideload no. 10 flat with Low Dark Mix, add the shadow of the flower onto the glass and glass foot. Create a darker area into the glass foot with a Low Dark Mix.
TEAR DROPS
(Use background color mix.)
STEP 1: Using a no. 2 flat with Dark Mix, add shadow area. STEP 2: Using a no. 2 flat with Dark Mix, paint only half of the inside of the teardrops.
STEP 3: Sideload no. 2 flat with Light Mix onto right side of teardrops.
STEP 4: Add details using 10/0 script liner with Highlight Mix.
GLAZING
Note: Before glazing make sure the paint is completely dry. Apply the glazes using a no. 10 and/or 3⁄4" flat. Use a
no. 10 and/or 3⁄4" flat and paint the highlight value areas with Transparent Yellow+Lavender Oil (1:2).
Paint the low dark value areas of the Hydrangea, Veron- ica, left side of the Green Berries, some area of Anthurium leaves, reflection of glass, bottom of the background, and Hy- drangea’s shadow with Transparent Blue+Lavender Oil (1:2).
Paint the low dark value areas of Veronica and dark value areas of the glass with Transparent Violet+Lavender Oil (1:2).
FRAME
STEP 1: Mix basecoat color of Celery Green+Black Green (1:1)
STEP 2: Using crumpled piece of clear wrap, dipped it in lavender oil then into some paint, press onto the surface giving a marbling effect.
FINISH
Let dry completely. Apply Krylon Semi Gloss Final Coat 10 to 20 times.
artist’s sketch
Mami Ando mda studied oil painting at Aichi Prefectural University in Japan, graduating in 1998. In 1996 she became interested in decorative painting, and joined the Society of Decorative Painters in 1999.
Also, she received her Master of Decorative Painter (MDA) in 2009. She currently maintains a busy teaching schedule at her studio and other locations in Japan. Mami enjoys her time gardening, reading, lesson music and visiting art museums. A key point of her artwork is her “variety of lighting.” She creates her artwork with this key point in mind and hopes that her students will able to learn it from her.
