UP Tourism Ferry (PNJ 821)
The River Cruise Ferry, which is a twin-deck catamaran, has been built by Goa Shipyard Limited
(GSL) at Mormugao, Goa for UP Tourism under Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (UPRNN).
It has been constructed under PRASAD scheme (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spirituality
Augmentation Drive) to promote tourism in Varanasi.
The Ferry has been indigenously designed at GSL and incorporates all design features and
statutory requirements in line with classification rules of Indian Register of Shipping. The Ferry
has two decks for passengers with a capacity of 80 passengers. It is 20 m long and 8 m wide,
with low draft to cater for depth constraints of the River.
The Ferry has two 150 BHP engines, two generators provide electrical supply, it has modern
equipment for navigation and safety, life rafts for any emergency making it a modern vessel
with comfort and safety of tourists. The interior of this Ferry has been aesthetically done,
including paintings on the bulkheads depicting fascinating facets of life at the Ghats of Varanasi.
The lower deck has air conditioned space, seating arrangement and large glass windows
offering panoramic views of the Ghats and Ganga River. The upper deck has a roof but is open
from the sides with adequate safety guard rails; designed to offer a great experience on the
River, around the Ghats of Varanasi.
