RELEVANT
14 THE POWER WORKBOOK FOR SETTING EMPLOYEE GOALS AND OKRs
Do our goals matter? If employee goals aren’t relevant to their team or organization, then they’re not worth pursuing. This is where goal alignment comes into play. Relevant goals align with other goals to propel the team, department, and organization forward. When testing your goal for relevancy, ask:
• Is this goal worthwhile?
• Will this goal meet team and organizational needs?
• Is this goal consistent with other goals we have in place? • How does this goal fit with short- and long-term plans? • Is this the right time?
• Am I the right person to set and obtain this goal?
• Is the output worth the input?
Sources vary on what “R” stands for. Realistic, Resourced, Reasonable, Results-Based... these are just a few options. Different labels cause duplication. For example, Realistic overlaps with Attainable and Results-Based overlaps with Measurable. We believe the model presented here has the least amount of overlap.
Make work awesome.
