The Future of Drone Forensics and Compliance
Introduction Drones have become ubiquitous, serving various purposes from delivery to
surveillance. However, their widespread use brings challenges, particularly in maintaining
regulatory compliance and conducting forensic investigations post-incident. Traditional Flight
Data Recorders (FDRs) are impractical for lightweight drones, necessitating a novel approach.
As per the Indian Government , For the first time, India has official data on the number of
drones in the country. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) has registered 19,553 (till 20
march ,2020)Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or drones since it made it mandatory for
operators to register. These number of drones is increasing Constantly
The LiveBox Solution LiveBox is designed to make drones both forensic ready and
regulation-compliant. It leverages distributed ledger technology (DLT) to create a tamper-
proof record of drone flight data. This architecture ensures that even if a drone is lost or
damaged, its flight data remains intact and retrievable for investigation.
In LiveBox software architecture three components plays vital roles such as:
i) On-drone LiveBox Services.
ii) The LiveBox Cloud Service.
iii) LiveBox Ground Service.
Self-Adaptive Reporting Algorithm One of the standout features of LiveBox is its self-
adaptive reporting algorithm. It dynamically adjusts the precision of flight data reporting
based on network conditions and regulatory requirements. This ensures that the system
remains efficient without compromising on the accuracy needed for compliance and
forensics.
Real-Life Application and Results Implementing Live Box in a drone delivery scenario
showcased its effectiveness. The system achieved a significant reduction in bandwidth
usage while maintaining high accuracy in regulatory compliance. This not only
demonstrates Live Box’s practicality but also its potential to revolutionize drone
operations.
Conclusion Live Box represents a significant step forward in UAV technology. Its ability to
ensure forensic readiness and adherence to regulations without burdening the drone with
heavy hardware makes it an invaluable asset for the future of drone operations.
