CHAPTER 3
               GRANDMOTHER’S INFLUENCE

22 Bilton Grove Avenue, Harrogate in 1949

I returned to school in Harrogate in 1950 after that
haphazard journey into Lincolnshire via Peterborough to
relocate my father. Evidently Father and Mother became
reconciled and were to live in a town called Boston.
I was now living at No22 Bilton Grove Avenue with
Grandmother. The Dragon View house having been sold to raise
funds for a property in Boston.
No body I talked to had ever heard of Boston except the
headmaster of Norwood College the school I attended at
Harrogate. Mr. Cass I remember being a shortish tubby fellow
with bald head. He was never without his black cap and gown
which produced a somewhat intimidating aura for a six year old
schoolboy. He explained with distinct enthusiasm about Boston
Parish church having the tallest tower in the land.
There was just the two of us still in Harrogate, Jane my sister
