ANOTHER MOVE
In the spring of 1962, my parents moved once again.
Through a contact at his work, father had found a beautiful
Georgian farmhouse some 10 miles out of town, to rent. This
eased the pressure at home considerably and allowed
Grandmother free rein to expand her enterprise with the
lodgers!
I moved to Swineshead Bridge with my parents and my
sister. A car sharing arrangement was agreed with mother, she
paid the necessary annual fees and I agreed to provide the
labour for repairs and maintenance. I still had the scooter but
when the weather was poor I used the Renault dauphine to
commute to work.

Petrol was
now five gallons
for a £ at the
new Jet Petrol
station just out
of town. I was
earning four
pounds and ten shillings a week.
Most of the time at the Boston Standard is covered by
“Lincolnshire Standard Tales” sufficient to say here that Ruth
and I planned to marry in May 1965 my 21 year. By then Ruth
st
would have completed her SRN training and gone on to
complete further training as a State Certified Midwife.
The date was set and of course there was friction at home
