Built many years ago, the 30 stalls are still
filled with working horses standing side by side
in two separate rooms. Sunlight streams through
the many windows and here we find Ebony and
his friend Sammy enjoying their breakfast.

Most of the horses in John Young’s stables
are black, but Ebony, who is 14 years old is very
very dark brown. Sammy, who is 7 years old is a
much lighter brown. Both big horses have long
white hair on their four legs...this is called
“feather”.

There have always been working horses
here at the Ram Brewery and John Young makes
sure that they are the best looked after horses in
the whole of England.

Joe is the driver who looks after Ebony and
Sammy. He has arrived very early in the
morning so that he can mix their food and give
them plenty of time to eat before beginning their
work for the day.
