POST SCRIPT ON THE FESTIVAL
The Church had been decorated not only by the flowers but also by a friend, Charles
Butler from Boston, who had taken much time researching the Lancastrian History
surrounding the village.
The land around the Town Hall was and still is owned by the Duchy of Lancaster.
John of Gaunt lived in his Castle at Old Bolingbroke only a few miles away in the hills.
A number of large St George Cross “shields” had been mounted high up on either side of
the main isle and half life size heraldic beasts from Lancastrian history on further shields,
decorated the front of the church.
The St George Cross Shields are still in the church today in 2009, 29 years later.
The actual festival earned donations far in excess of anything we had thought possible.
The proceeds were divided equally between each Church and Chapel in the Partnership.
As well as Church members, displays were provided by the local Scouts and Cubs,
Football Club, Women’s Institute, Young Farmers Club and various local businesses.
