               Note:
The caption on the group photograph mentions hostile
            crowds at “Boston United” games.
To elaborate; for many years due to a good contact in the
                                                 st
‘District’ of Boston, our Scout Unit (1 Boston Sea Scouts) were
given the task of selling football programmes in the streets
approaching the “United” home ground for all ‘home’ matches.
The money earned was used for things like buying the old
Lincolnshire County Council bus. At about the time of this story
the ‘contract’ had been running for over 10 years but the
Scouts, always in official uniform were taking increasing
amounts of verbal abuse as times and ‘tolerance’ was changing.
By mutual consent the contract was consequently
            terminated.
