in our rusty school French language to these lovely, enthusiastic local officials from France
who were earnestly seeking like minded English to share their town and culture.
It was decided that I should continue as their guide to the town for the present having only
recently ‘retired ‘as the local newspaper reporter, photographer and general factotum.
Ruth would join us later and Geoff would sort out suitable accommodation for the visitors,
(the local hostelries at that time, not deemed suitable for decent folk)!
We visited the shops in the town centre and gazed at the impressive statue of Sir John
Franklin the famous explorer.
I must add at this moment that in 1988 all the shops in Spilsby town centre were thriving
