            CHAPTER NINETEEN
            “SANDERSONS”

            Not long after the centre had opened we had a visit one evening from Charles Sanderson.
            He was the gentleman who owned the ‘Batemans’ heavy horse dray that we had used for
            the brewery publicity photographs in Boston.
            The dray, designed exclusively for use with large beer barrels, had originally belonged and
            been used extensively by Shipstones Brewery of Nottingham.
            Charles had bought it when the brewery had stopped using horses in the City. The dray
            was very heavily built to cope with its load of 20 barrels each holding 45 gallons of beer;
            there were no brakes!
