We did a good job of maintaining our dignity and probably it was only Roy Sanderson who
appreciated how serious the situation was.
Croft Parish Church.
The journey ended eventually at the churchyard gates and our responsibility finished. We
waited a few minutes until everyone was safely inside and then departed post haste and
gratefully relieved. We loaded Ebony into our lorry and headed home, leaving the cart in
question propped on its stands outside the wagon workshop.
Having the pleasure of meeting the old gentleman those few weeks before had helped
greatly on that special day.
During the whole time Ebony and I walked side by side down that seemingly endless long
road to the church, I could remember Charles Sanderson’s cheerful character and thought
that this last journey could not fail to bring a smile to his face!
