glycosides iridoids, lignan components) to inhibit blood LDL-
oxidation toxicity, a key atherogenic factor, which has been
attributed to both a direct free radical scavenging activity of
the preparation, and to its marked lipoxygenase and
cyclooxygenase activities. NONI also exerts a direct protective
effect on endothelial cells from the cytotoxic hydroperoxides
produced by extensive LDL oxidation. Notably, damnacanthal,
a trace anthraquinone component of NONI fruit, has been
shown to contribute to BIO REX® NONI remarkable anti-
inflammatory action through the suppression of nuclear
factor-kB (NF-kB) activity response, with resulting inhibition
of the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines,
cyclooxygenase-2, and inducible nitric oxide synthase.
Type 2 diabetes is associated with increased glucose
production due to the inability of insulin to suppress hepatic
gluconeogenesis and promote glycolysis. Insulin inhibits
gluconeogenesis by modulating transcription factors such as
forkhead box O (FoxO1). A specific research published in the
British Journal of Nutrition concluded that supplementation
with Fermented NONI (fNJ) inhibited weight gain and
improved glucose and insulin tolerance and fasting glucose
in animal study model. The research data suggest that
Fermented NONI improves glucose metabolism via FoxO1
regulation in diabetic patients.
