2.1 Categories of characteristics

          There are five major groups:

             ▪  Composition
             ▪  Physical properties

             ▪  Chemical properties

             ▪  Energy content
             ▪  Biological properties

           2.2 Composition


            Composition is defined that the term used to describe the individual components that make up
          a solid waste stream and their relative distribution, usually based on percent by weight (%) [1].

          Additionally, composition of SW is called items that can be identifiable [6]. This process is done

          based on shape, colour or material of waste which can be detected by human’s senses.

            Components can be divided into two groups: recyclable & not recyclable (landfill waste); or
          organic & inorganic. Based on that, sort identifiable items.

            Aim to determine physical components, you need to answear two questions: (1) what’s in your
          garbage? and (2) what percent of weight can components in waste mixture account for?
