desert; feel free to offer her water and sunscreen
when you see her.
The torts really appreciate the dedicated Tort Team
volunteers when the temperatures soar. No matter
how hot it gets, volunteers are in the habitat filling
the water dishes, spritzing the tort food so it stays
nice and moist for our connoisseurs and talking to
the visitors.
Keep up the good work Tort Team!

Carla Wise will be supervising the tortoise habitat
when Amelia moves to North Dakota in July (see
“Happy Trails Amelia” on page 12).
Carla grew up in a small town in southern Wiscon-
sin. Her father was a science teacher and he used to
take her out to collect rocks, catch frogs and turtles
and to fish. She also worked in a veterinary clinic in
