        Students examine major turning points in the shaping of the modern world from the late eighteenth century to the present.  The year
        begins with an introduction to current world issues and then continues with a focus on the expansion of the West and the growing
        interdependence of people and cultures throughout the world.  This course meets the District graduation requirement, but not the
        UC/CSU “a-g” entrance requirements.

        Students investigate significant events, individuals, developments, and processes from 1200 to the present. Students develop and use
        skills such as: Analyzing primary and secondary sources, developing historical arguments, and making historical connections. The
        course covers six major themes: Environmental, cultural, political, economic, social, and technological.

        European History is a rigorous and detailed study of the history of Europe from the High Renaissance to the present. Art/Literature,
        religion, philosophy, economics, and intellectual/social history are covered as well as traditional political/military history. This class is
        designed to prepare students for the Advanced Placement test. The course is designed in a way that promotes critical thinking and
        prepares students for Common Core material.

        Students study major turning points in U.S. history in the 20th century. They trace the change in ethnic composition of society;
        movement toward equal rights for racial minorities & women; and role of the U.S. as a major world power. An emphasis is placed on
        the expanding role of the federal government and courts as well as the continuing tension between the individual and the state.
        This course meets the District graduation requirement, but not UC/CSU “a-g” requirements.
