Texas is home to people who are dedicated to a life of service and who stand in the face of danger
to protect those in need. Peace officers, firefighters, emergency first responders, and the citizens who
assist them, deserve our gratitude for continuing to defend the values, traditions, and people of our
great State.
The State of Texas established the Star of Texas Award in 2003 to honor the service and sacrifice of
first responders. This award honors men and women who sustain serious bodily injury or lose their
life in the line of duty while protecting our State.
Nominations for the Star of Texas Award are now being accepted by the Governor’s Star of Texas
Award Advisory Committees. Nominations must be submitted online at:
https://gov.texas.gov/apps/cjd/staroftexas/default.aspx. The deadline for submission is Saturday, June
15th, 2019.
To be eligible for the 2019 award, the incident in which a first responder sustained serious bodily
injury, or lost their life, must have occurred between September 1st, 2003 and June 15th, 2019. The
nominee must not have previously received a Star of Texas Award for the same incident. The Awards
will be presented by the Governor, or designee, on Wednesday, September 11th, 2019 in the Texas
House of Representatives chamber.
Thank you for your participation in identifying eligible nominees. You are encouraged to share this
information with other professionals in your field of service.
If there are questions, or concerns, regarding the nominations or eligibility requirements, please
