Uganda Telecom Limited
(UTL): enabling Uganda’s
communications
An article written by UTL Chief Commercial Officer - Simon Peter Otine
Map showing extensive UTL network coverage
Our continued partnership with government ministries, departments and agencies has proven UTL’s unique capabilities in the market and enabled us to create new business relationships with multinational corporations, United Nations agencies, NGOs and other organisations in need of reliable, high-capacity requirements. Putting our customers’ individual needs first, we develop bespoke integrated communication solutions including dedicated and leased line connectivity, colocation services, fixed-line voice services, etc.
To continue meeting our customers’ evolving
needs, we upgraded our voice service and widened our network coverage by migrating from a CDMA platform to a more robust GSM network. We have also enhanced our product portfolio by introducing a premium internet service for select customers which has positively impacted our business revenues.
Meet the WIOCC sales team
We asked members of our Sales team to share some of their personal achievements in 2020 and give their view on the most significant innovation in the telecoms industry.
Christine Monne is WIOCC’s Sales Manager based in Uganda. She has built strong relationships with WIOCC shareholder UTL and WIOCC partners in the East Africa region. She works to develop mutually-beneficial, commercial and technical solutions for WIOCC, its shareholders and clients.
What has been your highlight of 2020?
The Covid-19 pandemic has meant spending more time at home with my family. We now have regular bonding sessions and mandatory daily quizzes led by each member of the family on
a rotational basis. I have been able to instil leadership skills in my children and grow their knowledge through a fun learning experience. Honesty, attention to detail and focus are values I live by and being able to pass them down to my children has been extremely fulfilling. I have learnt my children’s individual strengths and encouraged them to work on improving their areas of weakness.
What do you think was the most significant innovation of the telecom industry?
Mobile money and its integration with banking systems is an innovation that has significantly impacted the FinTech industry. Developed in East Africa and extending to many parts of
the world, its benefits are promoting globalisation, efficiency and flexibility in monetary transactions, massive growth in telecom revenues and convenience for consumers.
