Heads of Year 12 and 13
As the Heads of Year 12 and Year 13, our role is
to support and guide students throughout
their A Level journey, ensuring they achieve
their full potential both academically and
personally. We work closely with students
over the two years, providing continuity and
a consistent point of contact during this
critical period. This allows us to build strong
relationships, monitor progress effectively
and offer tailored support as students
transition from GCSE to Year 12, and then
to the challenges of Year 13 and beyond.
From academic mentoring to personal
development and university or career advice,
we are here to help students navigate
these formative years with confidence and
success.
In Year 12, the initial focus is overseeing the
transition from GCSE to A Level and BTEC
studies, which can be a significant step-up
in both workload and expectations for many
pupils. Our role is to provide students with
the support and guidance they need to
make this shift as smoothly as possible. In
Year 12, we focus on helping students adjust
to the increased demands of independent
study, time management and deeper
subject knowledge. Through regular check-
ins, Personal Development workshops, and
academic support, we ensure that students
are developing the skills required to succeed
at this higher level. Our aim is to help them
grow in confidence and resilience, setting
the foundation for a successful and fulfilling
two years in the Sixth Form.
In Year 13, our focus is on helping students
prepare for life beyond Sixth Form,
whether that’s university, apprenticeships
or entering the workforce. We provide
dedicated support through the university
application process, including personal
statement guidance, interview preparation
and managing deadlines. For those
pursuing other pathways, we offer tailored
advice and resources to explore career
options, apprenticeships or further training.
Throughout this final year, we continue to
monitor academic progress while ensuring
students stay motivated and resilient as they
complete their qualifications and take their
next steps with confidence.
We work closely with No.46, support staff,
Heads of Department and co-curricular
staff to ensure that every aspect of Sixth
Form life runs smoothly. This collaborative
approach allows us to monitor student
progress, address any concerns and provide
a well-rounded experience both inside
and outside the classroom. By maintaining
strong communication across these teams,
we can offer comprehensive support to each
student, helping them thrive academically
and personally during their time in the Sixth
Form.
