Matthew Pitteway
UCAS Co-ordinator
My role is to support the students, tutors
and Heads of Departments through the
UCAS process. A great many of our students
apply through UCAS every year for university
courses in the UK, and my job is to ensure
that all UCAS forms that are submitted from
Seaford students are as good as they can
possibly be. I work with the tutors to ensure
that the students have completed the
forms correctly and also work with Heads of
Department to ensure that our academic
reference is as positive and supportive as
it can be to enable every student to get
the best offers they can from their chosen
universities.
Working with the Upper Sixth like this
every year is really rewarding. I get to help
every student on their journey as they
begin to prepare to leave school and head
out into the world. A lot of students have a
very clear idea of what they want to do, so
helping them is relatively straightforward.
The challenge is always working with those
who don’t know what they want to do and
helping them find courses and careers that
really grab their attention.
This is the challenging part of the job, but
that moment a student suddenly finds the
course that is right for them is really magical
and makes this role so enjoyable.
The UCAS process is undergoing a lot of
change at the moment. Last year saw a
huge change in the way school references
need to be written, and next year will see a
huge change in the way students need to
write their personal statements. Staying on
top of these adjustments and ensuring that
every student gets the right advice is key to
the successful management of the whole
UCAS process at Seaford.
