featured in the Illinois Sig. Dave
was my Big Brother when I was
a pledge (KK’68), but I lost touch
with him after his graduation. I
thought I would give a brief update.
I recently retired from the
University of Chicago where I was
Professor of Medicine and Director
of the Center for Liver Disease
for 10 years. Prior to that, I was
at Rush Medical Center for 25 years. My research and clinical
interest has been in developing new therapies for hepatitis C. I
currently live in Oak Park, IL, with my wife, Donna, a retired
Infectious Disease physician. We travel and I also continue to
lecture on hepatitis C. My hobby is running and triathlons and
I recently completed the Muskoka Half Ironman race in Canada
and the Chicago Marathon this past October. I keep in loose
contact with Kevin O’Keefe ’69, but have otherwise “fallen
off the Sig grid.” I look forward to returning to Champaign for
Homecoming one of these years and visiting 410.
William L. White ’83 – I have been a Jimmy Johns franchisee with pledge brother Robb Sackett ’83 and his two brothers, Todd Sackett ’90

International, serving as Senior Vice President and Director
of Asset Management. My wife Polly Berry and I married on
September 26, 2015 in Wheaton, IL. and are raising our sons Dru
(University of Missouri- Walter Williams Journalism Program),
Brody (3rd Grade/lives soccer) and Jackson (Kindergarten/
karate and soccer) in Glen Ellyn, IL. Enjoy regularly connecting
with many Sigs across Chicagoland and Central Illinois.

Mark P. Bateman ’05 and I bought
our family business at the end of
2014. Mark and I represent the sixth
generation of our family to own
and operate the business in Decatur.
The company traces its beginnings
to the mid-1850s. We have renamed the business Woare’s Inc.
We sell a full line of landscape and masonry supplies. We use
the ideals of Sigma Chi on a daily basis to ensure our success as
businessman. www.woares.com.
