James William Roach ’43, of Oxford, MD., passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 with his
wife and family by his side. He was 93 years old. James was born in Saint Louis, MO in 1922.
After graduating from the University of Illinois, he joined the Navy. He became a Commissioned
Navy pilot and aircraft carrier instructor flying the F-4U corsair during WWII (1943-1947). After the
Navy, James’ career included positions with Chance-Vought Aircraft, Fairchild Aircraft, HUD, and
the Department of Defense. He retired to Oxford in 1984. James is survived by his wife of 50 years,
Barbara Ann Roach, his children and many beloved grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. He
was a loving husband, and a wonderful parent, grandparent, and friend. He was a man of the highest
character, a patriot, and the patriarch of the family. He was loved by many and will be missed greatly.
