He is coming at the end and still others believe He is not coming at all because He is already here. Need I go on? If all this sounds a bit confusing, that’s because it is!
Needless to say, if you are a member of a denomina- tion, you will seldom encounter differences such as these. Most of the time, the denominational Bible schools turn out preachers much like Grandma used to make cookies with a cookie cutter. They all look alike, taste alike and smell alike.
Therefore, I believe it is past the time when we all (in- dependent ministers, as well as others) need to have some good basic guidelines in our ministries, so that disorder will not reign, and we can keep our lack of “organization” from further encouraging splits until there is nothing left but splinters!
Our initial thought concerning Amos 3:3 may be, “If we cannot agree on everything, then there is no way we can work together!” Although this sounds reasonable, nothing can be further from the truth!
If we take this stand, probably none of us will ever work together (for there usually is something we do not see “eye to eye” on).
However, as we carefully reconsider Amos’ statement, our final conclusion must be that we must “enter into an agreement” before we can “walk together.”
So... the truth of the matter is we do not have to agree on everything to walk together, but we must be in agree- ment as to “how” we are going to walk together. This is the first question we must ask ourselves (and those desir- ing to walk with us).
Do you believe we need certain guidelines, so we can make an unwavering decision to walk together? Do you
