the criteria everyone must meet to even be considered a candidate for our staff.
One thing is certain, if God truly sends someone to work with us, he/she will have no difficulty in agreeing
to “the walk” with us (God knows exactly how we believe before that person ever came). Therefore, he/she will meet “any and all” guidelines God has already given us for “the walk” (more on this later).
Whenever potential candidates for our staff come to us and express the desire to work with us, our first step should be to tell them we are going to commit this matter to prayer. Then at a later date, we would like to meet with them again to discuss the matter more thoroughly.
Later, when you are alone in your study, praying and seeking God’s guidance concerning those desiring to become staff members, ask yourself, “What is their motive for desiring to work with me?”
Are they wanting to come to work with me in my ministry because:
1. They are out of work or in between jobs? (If that is the case, they are probably really looking for “anything” and “anyone” who will help them.)
2. They need a place to stay? (And my place looks like a nice place “to land” until something better comes along, and then they will be long gone.)
3. They are trying to “find themselves”? (If they hav- en’t “found themselves” in all these years, how am I going to be able to help them locate “themselves” now?)
4. They have “blown it” in other ministries; and now, no one else wants to work with them, so I am their last resort? No matter how nice they act to me now, their rebellion to authority will soon manifest itself in our rela-
