SVMIC Advanced Practice Provider Collaboration: Assessing the Risk
☐ Document all instances of patient non-adherence,
including missed appointments and contact attempts
made.
☐ Communicate and document follow-up instructions,
warnings, and relevant discharge information to patients.
Be sure to convey such information in terms clearly
understandable to non-medically trained individuals.
OVERSIGHT
☐ Appropriate oversight along with thorough and accurate
documentation are valuable safety nets when employing or
collaborating with an APP.
☐ Become familiar and knowledgeable with the state
rules, regulations, and requirements. Start with each
practitioner’s respective professional board.
☐ Become familiar with the APP’s scope of practice, and
ensure any additional delegation is appropriate and within
the APP’s training, certification, and/or credentialing. Do
not delegate without demonstrated competency.
☐ Carefully monitor the APP and consider reviewing most
records during the initial employment period.
☐ Develop a system to regularly review the APP’s work and
quality assurance.
