SVMIC Collaborating with Advanced Practice Providers
Jointly outline the standard of care and scope of practice to ensure
services are lawful and within the APP’s training and competency.
LICENSURE & VERIFICATION
Obtain any prescreening background checks required by the state
(Department of Health or board websites often post links), always
check references, verify licensure and document findings.
Post any required notices for title transparency, Adult Protective
Services, domestic abuse hotline, anti-discrimination, etc.
Ensure maintenance of licensure, continuing education and update
protocols, formularies and other state specific requirements and
hospital and facility bylaws.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
Provide training and ensure compliance with HIPAA, the Health
Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act
(HITECH), as well as any relevant state privacy laws, OSHA, anti-
discrimination, appropriate billing and other potential areas of
compliance risk.
Establishing policies for these areas is generally required by the
government or for participation in most health insurer plans.
Know the state’s continuing education requirements and ensure
APPs have opportunities to meet those requirements.
