practice), through additional training and certification by a national
Specialty Association or Society with a published core curriculum and
credentialing in the procedure or through specialized training courses
qualifying the practitioner to perform specific procedures such as
aesthetics procedures. Completion of a single course or certification
program may not meet the board requirements or standard of care for
appropriate delegation of a procedure, so check with the applicable
state board. Many boards will require submission of the proposed
procedure prior to approval. Even if an APP is authorized to perform
services or other acts pursuant to the application to the Board and state
law, supervising physicians may not require him or her to perform that
service or act if the APP feels incapable of carrying it out safely and
properly. All physicians and APPs alike are accountable for making
decisions that are based on the individuals’ educational preparation and
current clinical competence, to practice with reasonable skill and safety.
Additionally, if any practitioner changes scope of practice, it is important
to notify SVMIC’s underwriting department to ensure coverage is
appropriate.
Check the applicable state board for specific procedure limitations.
