Konstant nopol s' n lk Arap kuşatması sırasında burada öldüğüne nanılan,

Hz. Muhammed' n arkadaşı ve sahabes Ebu Eyyûb el-Ensarî'den almıştır.

1453'te İstanbul'un Feth 'nden sadece beş yıl sonra Osmanlı pad şahı II.

Mehmed tarafından 1458'de alana b r küll ye nşa ed ld . 18. yüzyılın

başlarında Sultan III. Ahmed, cam n n k m nares n bugünkü hal yle

yen den nşa ett rm şt r. 18. yüzyılın sonlarında cam , muhtemelen deprem

neden yle harap b r durumdaydı ve 1798'de Sultan III. Sel m, m nareler
dışındak tüm yapının yıkılıp yen den nşa ed lmes n emrett . Yen den nşa

sürec 7 Temmuz 1800 tar h nde tamamlandı. Doğudak m nare se 1822

yılında II. Mahmud tarafından özgün üslupta yen den nşa ed lm şt r.

Eyüp Sultan Mosque s a mosque n Eyüpsultan, a d str ct ofIstanbul located

on the shores ofthe Golden Horn, outs de the Walls of Constant nople. The

mosque s named after St. Muhammad's fr end and compan on, Abu Ayyub

al-Ansar , who s bel eved to have d ed here dur ng the f rst Arab s ege of
Constant nople n the 670s. A soc al complex was bu lt on the s te n 1458 by

the Ottoman sultan II. Mehmed, justf ve years after the Conquest ofIstanbul
n 1453. In the early 18th century, Sultan III. Ahmed had the two m narets

ofthe mosque rebu lt n the r currentform. By the late 18th century the

mosque was n a d lap dated state, probably due to an earthquake, and n

1798 Sultan III. Sel m ordered the ent re structure exceptthe m narets to be

demol shed and rebu lt. The rebu ld ng process was completed on July 7,

1800. The m naret n the east was rebu lt n the or g nal style by II. Mahmud

n 1822
