The tradition of henna markings on animals is not limited to North Africa. It is also found
in Middle Eastern countries.
Should some doubt the effectiveness of such traditions, the disinfecting efficiency of
henna was proven in a scientific study on Iraqi horses in “The effect of Henna (Lawsonia
