        Burchard writes: "The Bedouins pay no attention at all to beauty traits ... Rather, they
        practise a sharp selection of performance ... character, intelligence and orientation ... Only
        those that have become famous for hunting produce larger offspring. Even today's state-
        subsidised Bedouin cannot afford to keep a bunch of inferior dogs. In addition, he constantly
        endeavours to breed or own only those Salukis that he could give to his Sheikh or a member

        of the Royal family without embarrassing himself."


        Burchard also mentions that the individual Bedouin tribes have different types of
        sighthounds, depending on the area. For example, the Mutair have more or less well-

        feathered Salukis, while the Al-Murra tribe have only smooth Salukis.

        Dr. John Burchard describes decidedly different types in the different Bedouin tribes,

        which therefore remain constant in the coat and its variations within the population.
        Otherwise it would not be possible to differentiate and categorise the individual Bedouin
        tribes or families in this way!
