He took a dive toward the lure but
continued to slide on the wet grass into my
legs, knocking me off my feet in a single
blow! Luckily, neither O’dah nor myself
were hurt, but it was a strange feeling
when suddenly your feet are moved away
from underneath. This should serve to
illustrate the enthusiasm with which O’Dah
engaged in his races. He would not miss a
beat.

O’Dah was from the start my favorite
puppy; he was very friendly and after a
month it was already clear that he would
develop into an extremely tight fit to the
FCI standard of the Sloughi. When he was
a year old, as a first step, we entered him
at various racing events, where he excelled
beyond expectation. Several of these
events are burned into my memory and I
will briefly recount two of the most
memorable ones.
I believe it was when O’Dah turned two
that we had straight racing at our
racetrack. When the lure operator slowed Odah with Bernd 2004 © de Caprona
down the lure after the finish line, O’Dah,
who had crossed first in the high point
race, veered off after the lure that was
blown by a strong wind in my direction.
