The Northern Sprint Challenge “Iron Dog” competition was created in 2001 by Paul Krey
and was first hosted by the Minnesota Coursing Association. Paul Krey later founded
the Northland Amateur Racing Club the following year and took over his special event.
The challenge offered 3 consecutive days of straight racing in Minnesota once a year, a
highlight in the sport of American sighthound straight racing in the Midwest. The
winners each day received ribbons, and the scores of all 3 days were combined after the
third event to declare the “Iron Dogs” of the Northern Sprint Challenge that year.
The event welcomed all the breeds recognized by the Large Gazehound Racing
Association (LGRA). Each day the dogs raced in 3 programs on a straight track of 260
yards.
Sloughis participated several times and their results were as follows.
