Lure coursing is not an authentic hunt but as close as we can get to a simulated prey for
sighthounds to chase. It is the official aptitude test for sighthounds, to ensure their
original functions.
Quote from the aims of FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) statutes:
“Encouraging and promoting the breeding, registration and use of pedigree dogs ensuring
that their functional health and physical features meet the standard set for each respective
breed, enabling them to work and to carry out different functions in accordance with the
specific characteristics of their breed.”
The cooperation with breeders in the countries of origin is therefore invaluable to
preserve the diverse types, fit for the different prey Sloughis originally hunted. The FCI
World Coursing Championships 2023 is a great example of such cooperation and what it
brings to our Sloughi population.
9 males and 15 females competed for the
World Coursing Championships titles, all of
them in FCI-CACIL class, on 2 challenging
courses of 879 meters (course 3) and 918
meters (course 1)
Top 6 males after the first run were Ward
al Yasmeen Araff 254 pts, Latif ibn Chazzan
Ksar Ghilane 253 pts, Jurrad Mahanajim 253
pts, Abd Al Jabbar Comnucohnu 250 pts,
Ibnasch Inaam Mahanajim 248 pts, del
Khazaris Karel ag Dalvit 246 pts. Course 3, 879 m, run 1
As usual with lure coursing it was a thrill
during the second runs when points can be
so different that they totally change the
ranking of the winners. Also, all Sloughis
seemed to do really nice second runs. Top
6 were Ibnasch Inaam Mahanajim 268 pts,
Abd Al Jabbar Comnucohnu 266 pts, Jurrad
Mahanajim 263 pts, Latif ibn Chazzan Ksar
Ghilane 262 pts, del Khazaris Karel ag
Dalvit 259 pts, Tillieville T’Challa 258 pts.
Course 1, 918 m, run 2
