Debba, Arabian sighthound or Sloughi, from the kennel of the Chasseur
Français (Journal “French Hunter”)
This red brindle Sloughi by P. Mahler, was used also for the famous and numerous books
about dogs and hunting from the Manufacture des Armes et Cycles de St Etienne from about
1885 to 1935, and is thus the most influential picture of these times. Correct ear set at the
time.
1950 A painting by F. Castellan representing the new look of the breed.
It replaces the red brindle Sloughi in the books of the Manufacture d’Armes et de Cycles de St
Etienne after World War II. A new era has started for this breed, but although occasional
breeding would take place in the 1950-1960s, it would not be before the 1970s that one would
witness a true renaissance of the breed in the Western World. Ear set imposed by the French
in the standard of 1937.
