-“Domestication”, man's contemptuous attitude towards flora and fauna
However, what fundamentally still resonates with the term “domestication” is the
contemptuous attitude of humans towards plants and animals. We also find this tone in
the dog trainer Peter Müller, who writes in all innocence that the dog hunts for man, just
as a servant (“domestic”) would do for his master. This is certainly not malicious, but it
shows a general attitude towards the former “best friend of man”, who has apparently
become “man's best domestic servant”.
Even more extreme and completely objectified is Angela Perri's purely functional view, as
if a dog were a machine that, depending on need, could be designed or bred more for
farming or as a racing car. The completely objectified world of thought of modernity,
which also comes across as somewhat condescending, characteristically speaks of the
“functional animal” and the “functional plant”. The secret of the rapprochement
between dogs and humans will not be found this way, even if it is scientifically correct!
