He also shows these two basic types on Ptahhotep, the mastaba D64 in Saqqara from the
end of the 5th Dynasty. Ptahhotep II was probably vizier of Pharaoh User.
What is important for us to observe is that the scene in Sahure takes place in a fenced,
enclosed area in the desert, whereas in Ptahhotep it cannot be said with certainty that
the scene is depicted in open country. It must therefore be permissible to ask whether we
are actually looking at a sighthound in the old type of Tesem, if we take Arrian's definition
that the swift game can be caught up in the run and captured. The enclosed area does not
allow the fast game animals Oryx antelope and Dorcas gazelle to use their great
advantage, namely speed for flight, and to play off against fast pursuers.
A second aspect is that there is no previous representation of the kind in Sahure. And yet
the scene seems very mature and as such must already have had a development behind it.
The second hunting scene that is important for our consideration is found with the vizier
Antefoker.
-Hunting scene of Antefoqer (or Antefoker, Antefiker, Intefiqer, Intefiker), a vizier known
from various documents, who served King Amenemhat I and then his son Sesostris I at
the beginning of the 12th Dynasty (c. 1958-1913 BC).
