The measurements were taken as follows: in black using a measurement stick, in yellow
using a measuring tape, and with a digital scale for live weight of the dogs.

HW (height at withers), HR (height at rump), HL (head length), HeW (head width), ML
(muzzle length), EL (ear length), NL (neck length), BL (body length), and TL (tail length).

MC (muzzle circumference), HC (head circumference), CC (chest circumference), WaistC
(waist circumference), TC (thigh circumference), FC (forearm circumference), WristC
        (wrist circumference).

        Results

        Measurements

The highest coefficients of variation among the studied individuals were for waist
circumference and weight, the lowest was for the withers/rump index. Some individuals
had a height at the withers greater than 80 cm, considered as giant Sloughis which
unfortunately are becoming increasingly rare. They were chosen during this work to be
part of a new program for the preservation of the breed, with the agreement and the
participation of the breeders. Especially in the Sloughi, height at the withers is one of the
most important traits for their selection. In the mountain regions local breeders consider
tall Sloughis to be the best, for their usefulness in hunting wild boars and golden African

wolves easily. These breeders and owners have also noticed that the “giant Sloughis”
adapt better to mountainous regions than Sloughis from plains and desert, where height
        at withers is less important.
