Encouraged by the success of the event, several Sloughi breeders expressed their strong
desire to organize a similar event in a wilaya in central Algeria, such as Djelfa, Laghouat
and M'sila, to give other breeders the chance to participate.
5. Seminar recommendations
Following the round-table discussion with all seminar participants, a large number of
recommendations and requests were drafted in the form of Minutes in partnership with
the National Association of Purebred Sloughi and Wildlife Protectors, and the Algerian
Association of Dog Breeders, under the title “The Algerian Sloughi, an endangered
heritage.”
The most important recommendations and requests are:
1. Organize periodic shows, especially for the purebred Algerian Sloughi, which is
present throughout the country.
2. Encourage breeders to set up special breeding and intensification centers.
3. Create semen banks for the Algerian Sloughi.
4. Encourage artificial insemination for Algerian Sloughis.
5. STANDARDIZATION OF ALGERIAN SLOUGHI DOG BREED Establish the pattern and
characteristics of originality of the Algerian Sloughi breed, both locally and
internationally.
6. Carry out a complete census to register all Sloughis considered purebred.
7. Creation of a STUD BOOK for the Algerian Sloughi breed (5).
These minutes were signed by the Association nationale des protecteurs de Sloughis de
race pure et de la faune sauvage, the Association algérienne de l'élevage canin, the
University of Tlemcen, and sent to the Ministry of Agriculture.
After two years following the seminar, only one concrete action has been achieved, which
is the publication of an article on the morphology of the Algerian Sloughi on the
researchgate website entitled: The first morphological study of the Sloughi dog breed in
Algeria. Prepared by : H.Y. Haddam, A. Mennani, O. Yilmaz, H. Abdelbari, I. Mkedder,
