BIOGRAPHY OF
MR. JOSEPH WILLIAM
SARPONG ANTWI
(Alias Daddy Willie) 8th February, 1935 - 3rd June, 2022
r. Joseph William Sarpong Antwi, was affectionately
called Daddy Willie by his children and friends, and Ko
MWillie by his siblings. Ko Sarpong as he was also called
was born on 8th February 1935 at Akyem Begoro in the
Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region, Ghana. His parents
were Rev. Benjamin Samuel Antwi and Mrs. Ruth Atuaa Antwi
both of blessed memory. He was the third child and second son
among ve (5) other siblings.
His father was a headmaster who later became a Minister of the
Presbyterian Church of Ghana and as a result, the family had to
travel and work in different towns and stations. This inuenced
and shaped his character as a person and thus, Ko Willie
became very adaptable, accommodating and hardworking.
He started his primary education at Mpraeso Presbyterian
Primary School in 1941. The family then moved to Asante
Mampong (1944), Asante Efduase in 1949 and nally back to
Begoro where he completed his Middle School education in
1951. He proceeded to Abuakwa State College, Kibi where he
studied for both the Ordinary and Advanced Level Certicates.
