Unit compositions: All units have 4 bases and are deployed with a two base front. Both
ranks (bases) can fire and melee. Cavalry is the only exception, it may deploy in line
with all 4 bases in the front rank. There is no formation changing; the above formations
are set and may not be changed in a game. The number of figures on each base is
irrelevant so virtually any mounting system will work. Artillery units will have a crew of
3 or 4 gunners (the exact number does not matter since the gun is permanently abandoned
if it takes a hit or is charged).
There are 3 morale grades of units: ashigaru is the lowest, then samurai and at the top are
legendary samurai.
Each army should have a camp along their baseline. Each army should have 3 mounted
leaders (daimyos); one each for the left wing, the right wing and the center. A good
game can be played with each daimyo commanding 5 or 6 units.
Pre-battle set up: place a screen between both sides and each player sets up
simultaneously. Each army has a set-on of 18 inches to the front and no closer than 12
inches from either board edge (note that these are just suggestions and can be varied).
