Breed Club
T
he club exists for the purpose of the interest of the pure bulldog
breed and breeder, the club also aims for social contact with
bulldog lovers and fanciers in all walks of life adds to the zest of
living.
I lived 39 years in the Netherlands where my love for the breed
started and I established my Beefeaterbulls prefix. Then in 2011 a
group of people gathered at my home living back in the country where
I was born, and it was proposed that we should work together to get
permission from the KC to form the Northern Ireland Bulldog Club.
As a small club we have been so lucky to still have the committee
members that we started with, who worked very hard to establish the
club.
So that’s how it began. In 2013 the KC granted us recognition to
hold KC events in Northern Ireland again and we hold seminars, dog
matches, a yearly social BBQ and our club match.
We had tried to reinstate the name of the old Ulster Bulldog Club
from the 1930’s, which faded away during the troubled period in the
provinces history, but for a number of reasons the KC could not grant
the old name.
But we still look back and honour the old stalwarts of those days
at our Club match each year. We were lucky to get some of the old
trophies that were stored in the attic of the Mrs Kay Finley, the last
secretary of the Ulster Bulldog Club, back into our possession.
We don’t have a club magazine like in the old days, but thanks to
Mark Zuckenburg we have got a well-attended Facebook page
The club and committee is working hard to get CC status and is
hoping now our KC management is in a more stable environment that
this will be achieved in the near future.
