VERRAMI
by Rachel Barney
Verrami is the affix taken out by my mother
Veronica Clarke in 1978, I have had a separate
interest in it since 1983. It is a combination of
Mum’s name, mine & Dad’s, Michael. Mum
started her journey in Weimaraners with a
rescue bitch, Gerda of High Garrett. Greta was
built like a tank & totally bomb proof, her only
vice was that she hated being left alone. Mum
had not intended to breed, so had been & had
a chat with our vet about spaying Greta. The
Vet was John Holmes who had Weimaraners &
persuaded Mum to have a litter using his young
dog Clackhill Christian. This mating produced
5 puppies. John had pick of litter & sold the
puppy to Dot Bushby who became a life long
friend, she wanted a companion to her current
show dog. Dot did show this puppy & she went
onto to become Sh Ch Verrami Aphrodite,
who won her first CC at 9 months. We kept
Verrami Abbaca who won 1CC & a Certificate Ch Verrami Joint Effort
of Merit at a field trial. Due to a change in
Dot’s circumstances Aphrodite came back to worked her. From the 2nd of her 3 litters we
us in 1983 & she produced her 1 & only litter kept Sh Ch Verrrami Double Take who was
in 1985 to Ch Ragstone Ryuhlan. The only sired by Khansynn Cardinal Synn. She was
bitch in the litter went to friends of Mum’s on our 3rd line bred champion, an achievement
the understanding that we would have a puppy few kennels had attained at the time. I started
back. However, the puppy was back with us by showing the dogs aged 12 & was hooked. I won
9 months old & won her first CC & BOB at 16 my first CC at the first championship show I ever
months. She was Ch Verrami Joint Effort & handled at aged 13 with Verrami Abbaca, which
it was a true joint effort, I showed her & Mum I think could make me the youngest person to
have won a CC in the breed. I’m not sure if I’m
also the youngest to have awarded CCs in the
breed, doing this for the first time aged 25. Along
with the Weimaraners I have also had my own
very successful kennel of Miniature Wire Haired
Dachshunds, with many champions & my dogs
are behind several top winners. These days my
main breed is Irish Red & White Setters, for me
they have a similar determination, stubbornness
& intelligence that the Weimaraner’s have but
I love how they use their Irish sense humour to
Sh Ch Verrrami Double Take - age 9 their advantage!
