Doug was a very sweet cocker spaniel. He was
a member of the family of one of my Veterinary
Herbalist colleagues. He developed a lameness on
his right front leg at the end of last year/beginning of
this year, after several tests it was found that he had
cancer on his right leg.
Immediately the decision was made to amputate
his right leg including his shoulder blade, which
minimises trauma to the tissues, so he would have a
chance to have a pain free life and a chance to have
a bit more time with his family. The surgery is a major
surgery, still a lot of tissue is removed not to mention
that Doug would have to learn to walk on three legs
and adapt to his new situation.
After the surgery the specialist surgeons expected
some degree of discomfort so Doug had different
types of pain medication to try and manage it but they
would not work.
10 days after the surgery his mummy, an experienced
vet, acupuncturist and herbalist was at a loss as
Doug had been in excruciating pain since his surgery.
He could not move without screaming in pain and in
Douglas Williams panic. He would not sleep through the night as he
born 30-11-2014 would wake up at least a couple of times a night in
pain and in a panic. She had been staying up with
him. He would barely move during the day and his
