work out Mylo’s behaviour.
Dean explained that Mylo was so different to
what they thought a rescue dog would be and at
times he said it was harder than having a puppy.
They worked on this behaviour by splitting the
kitchen in half with a fence and gave him space
at feeding times, he did bite and growled initially,
but then Dean started to stroke him very gently
on a regular basis each time he had his food to
try and build up his trust and over a period of
time this began to work . He used treats and
played a game with both dogs taking it in turns
and saying – “this is Dexter’s” – “this is Mylo’s”
ensuring consistency every time.
He went on to say that when large dogs came
near him out on walks he was very nervous and
on edge and would snap if he felt threatened by
them. It took at least nine months before Mylo
started to trust other dogs and if occasionally
he seemed a little hesitant with another dog, he
would reverse out of the way without showing
any aggression, which was a great sign in his
development.
Dean and Joanne are members of the Crazy
Beagle Group and socialised Mylo with care and
introduced him to other Beagles within the group
which has certainly helped build trust with other
dogs. Before the lockdown situation they met and now trusts every dog that approaches him,
