Our Nursing, Our Value- A Reflection
Judi Cullinane, PhD, MSN, RN, Executive Director, Center of Excellence
When one pauses, there is a moment of reflection and a realization of how quick a year has gone by. The reflection simply opens one up to embrace and appreciate the accomplishments. In a previous newsletter, I wrote about possibilities. In this one, I acknowledge the belief and determination for possibilities to become true. A reflection of a year...... Believe and you shall see.
Our CNO is an advocate. As a VP, she sits on the board and believes in sharing our value, voice and ideas of all we do to improve care. We now have a commitment to showcase what we do together with others.
As nurse leaders, we recognize collaborative nurse input and together we embrace the importance of building our future potentials and possibilities through our unit based and professional councils. We have opportunities to be involved in committees, to improve practice and to make a difference. We have embodied the importance of relationships with each other, our colleagues and our organization.
As nurses, we have helped to improve CAUTI rates, developed pathways to support patient and family confidentiality while admitted to the hospital, and reduced the risks of infection through astute lens of potential equipment defects. We have embraced that excellence requires sustainability and we work diligently towards developing mentorship programs, leadership programs, nurse expert programs, research, evidence based practice initiatives, and nurse presentations that build foundational and professional knowledge across all nurses and colleagues.
We are showcasing excellence day to day, colleague to colleague, bringing our best of service to patients and families. We are leads in cardiovascular care, stroke care, medical care, trauma care, and safety for patients from neonates to geriatrics. We have supported all these services and as nurses we appreciate and value the diversity of thoughts and ideas for best outcomes. We do this because it is the right thing to do.
We have showcased our innovative side and are trail blazers for finding a way to become a community of innovation. We have nurses who have come forward to explore and exploit ideas for improving care, connections with patients and families and to redefine and invent new equipment. We are engaged in finding the pathways to industry partnerships and have trademark innovation at Tufts as INNOVA Café.
We have engaged in community service during times of need and embrace the importance of global health initiatives, sharing our knowledge and skills with nurses of other countries. We are nurses of Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children and together, with patients, families and colleagues, aim to master the art and science of care.
Take a moment and ask yourself, has nursing evolved at Tufts? Yes, we have. Are we able to do more together? Yes, we can. Are we a community of excellence? Yes, we are. Our journey of excellence.... We have been on it, Showtime!!!
I am grateful for all we do together. Judi
