While the definition of “value-based” continues to evolve, for most it means driving out waste while preserving the world-class innovation and lifesaving care historically found across the U.S.
“From the breast care standpoint, our field is
now consumer driven. Women are educated and know what they are up against. Quality is driving subspecialization, and GR gets that.”
—Dr. Richard Cooper, General Surgeon with Ely Surgical Associates
For GR, value-based care means meeting the demands of increasingly educated pa- tients and of hospital administrators forced to bring down costs while preserving care quality. GR accomplishes this goal through eight distinct and intentional commitments that equate to radiology excellence.
1. Create an Internal Culture of Excellence
A dozen ARMC stakeholders were asked to describe GR physicians. They were frequently described as polite, valuable, confident, approachable, engaged, modest, intelligent, committed, adaptable, caring, and available.
Chris DeAngelo, Director of Imaging for ARMC noted, “Everything about the transition with GR has been a win/win for us, from the way [their] doctors talk to our patients and staff to the high-quality reads they provide. They are very positive and open to teaching and conversation. My staff has no hesitation about going to them with ques- tions or seeking feedback.”
Gretchen Dixon, ARMC RIS/PACS Analyst, said, “The GR radiologists came in quietly and observed the surroundings and how things were done at Alamance. They em- braced our community first, and then our doctors and staff embraced them.”
Dr. Eric Mansell, President of GR, and his partners are intentional about the way they approach every new setting because their goal is to have everyone from the patient to the CEO fall in love with their radiologists’ ability to provide unparalleled care.
2. Define and Deliver Value-Based Care
As value-based healthcare takes on real meaning for localized care settings, Gretchen Dixon sums up what’s hardest to measure. “I just trust that they [GR] are not going to do something that is not necessary. I have confidence that they are good at what they do because I see the results.”
