father N.C. Jain, Manit established the group’s first school, The Heritage School, Vasant Kunj, Delhi
followed by Heritage Xperiential Learning School, Gurgaon (2003) and Heritage, Rohini (2003). In 2014,
to investigate best international education practices, he took a sabbatical and signed up for the Master
of Education study programme of the prestigious Harvard Graduate School of Education.

“Disillusioned by the meaninglessness of conventional K-12 and higher education which are too ex-
ams-oriented, I signed up to study and research innovative education practices at Harvard. To end the
misery and drudgery of children, I researched the best pedagogies from innovative schools around the
world. The result is our HXLS curriculum and organisational culture, inspired by Expeditionary Learning
Schools, USA — the oldest and most recognised network of experiential learning schools globally,”
says Jain.

In his mission to revolutionise primary and secondary education in India, Jain has been aided and ad-
vised by his wife Smriti, also an alumna of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a certified master
trainer and promoter director of the Heritage Group’s ‘I am a Teacher’ training programme.
