The mission of Maryland Y
Youth & Government is to develop
young men and women into strong leaders
and better citizens by being knowledgeable
and active in determining the future OVER 70
of our democracy.

We help students understand their role in the YEARS OF
democratic process by providing hands-on experience EXCELLENCE
in public policy that is meaningful, memorable and fun.

Maryland Y Youth & Government
program objectives include:

• Gain an understanding of local, state, national
and international concerns
• Develop critical thinking, leadership and communication skills

• Research and debate issues that are important to you
• Gain an understanding of political systems and the space
they provide where views on various issues can be resolved
effectively and peacefully

• Appreciation for diverse viewpoints on public issues and
respect for the ideas and beliefs of others

• Demonstration of citizenship responsibilities and leadership
roles essential to the health of a participatory democracy

• Exploration of careers in public service
