CONCEPT 8 – BEING HUMBLE
Humble:
“Having or showing a modest or low estimate of one’s importance.” (Oxford Dictionary) [71]
Islam places great emphasis on manners and on the proper way to deal with others, whether
they are Muslims or not. Relations between people are very important in Islam, and maintaining
good relations with others is fundamental in Islamic social ideology. Integral to these good
relations is the concept of being humble, which involves showing humility in all situations and
being kind to everyone.
Islam emphasises the importance of kindness to parents; in numerous verses of the Quran,
kindness to parents is mentioned immediately after belief in God. There is also much emphasis
in Islam on kind and fair treatment of spouses. Treating every human with humility and
kindness helps to create a peaceful, helpful and caring society.
